Good news! Seven Continents illuminating Uganda Mandela National Stadium!
2024-07-26
Sport has the power to change the world
The Mandela National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Uganda. It is named after Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa and anti-apartheid icon. As we all know, Mandela is a sports fan and the most famous person who advocates racial equality in the sports world. During the 27 years in prison, listening to football matches was one of his few happy moments. As the father of the nation, Mandela personally went to Zurich to make the final votes for South Africa's bid to host the 2010 World Cup. He asked voters to give the hosting rights as a gift to his motherland. For this reason, South Africa became the first country on the African continent to welcome the top football feast, and his words "Sport has the power to change the world" became the motto of countless sports stars and sports enthusiasts.
Currently the Mandela National Stadium is mainly used for football matches, but other sports such as athletics are also held. The stadium has a capacity of 45,202 people and is the home ground of the Uganda national football team, known as the Uganda Cranes.
